Recently I went shopping for tuning tools, something that could help me accomplish this task in a smaller amount of time. If you ever have being on the road, you will get where I'm coming from. Being able to fully tune your skins in your van, or backstage while the rest of the band is sound checking (or being amused by the bartender) it's a great thing. That's when the Drum Dial started coming on the road with me. Differently from torque key, this device measures skin tension, not lug's. Placing this device an inch away to every drum lug, it will give you a reading of the tension. All you have to do is to match the desirable tension on every single lug.
From $60 to 70$ bucks, it's how much you will end up spending for this tool device.

I love how simple and accurate this tool works. It even comes with a chart where it gives you suggestions on what tensions, depending on drumhead type, you should tune your skins too. After you find your favorite tension to every drum, it's really easy to replicate it, getting the exact same sound result.
It consists of a clock mounted on heavy bottom, with a spine metal pin that fluxuate measuring the superficial tension where it is sitting on.
